from June 30th – July 4th, 2007, the 6th Congress of the European Federation of Oto-Rhino-Laryngological Societies (EU.F.O.S.) will be held in Vienna/Austria. We feel honoured that the Austrian Society of ORL,
H & N Surgery has been trusted with organising this meeting, the largest of its kind in Europe. We will do our best to provide you with both an outstanding scientific and clinical conference as well as social and cultural entertainment.

Vienna today is a modern world capital, a metropolis in which the history of Europe is uniquely documented. With its rich tradition, the city of waltz, of the opera, of culture and science is waiting for you! Situated right in the heart of Europe, open and within easy reach for visitors from the new EU-member states and their neighbouring countries, Vienna ranges amongst the world’s foremost congress cities today.

To take advantage of these charming traditions, we have selected the Imperial Hofburg Palace as venue for the congress. Here, sophisticated high-tech equipment meets with nostalgic charm of days long gone, but still displaying the grandeur of these historical periods. In addition, the Hofburg palace is located in the very heart of the inner city of Vienna: The best shopping facilities, restaurants, cafes, museums, opera, theatres– everything is within easy walking distance.

Not only the conference facility is unique, but so are opportunities for social and cultural events, for relaxation and enjoyment: However long you will be staying, you will not be able to exhaust the cultural and entertainment possibilities Vienna has to offer – these will rather exhaust you by their multitude and magnitude. Delightful introductions to the sights, tastes and traditions of Vienna and the surrounding countryside along the Danube are planned.

To attract as many young clinicians and scientists as possible, those up to 35 years of age will pay a significantly reduced registration fee. For the scientific part, a large variety of teaching courses, How-I-do-it lectures and workshops will be organised, where the masters of the field display and pass on their knowledge.

Under the umbrella of EU.F.O.S., the European Academy of ORL, H & N Surgery was chartered in January of 2005. Its main task will be education and training of young otorhinolaryngologists throughout Europe. At the Vienna meeting, this new organisation will be significantly involved in the scientific teaching and educational programme.

In times like these, when international politics not necessarily do reflect the wishes, dreams and needs of the individual nations, we in our community of European and international otorhinolaryngologists should speak out and make it clear, that our main goal is care for our patients and interest in clinical and scientific advances in our field. This goes beyond institutions, national or international borders, even beyond politics and religion. We therefore cordially invite participants from all over the globe, especially from Near and Middle East countries, Australasia and Africa, the Americas to come to Vienna to contribute to and share the exciting new developments in our field: Orient meets Occident, North meets South – Vienna always was at crossroads. Since the 19th century, European Otorhinolaryngology has continued to sparkle with ideas, developments, research and clinical improvements, for the whole world: We believe and feel, that this is an ongoing process! So come to Vienna and find out for yourself!
